Aalesund municipality council has approved a temporary arrangement with extended serving and opening hours during the 2026 FIFA World Cup for men. The arrangement applies from 11 June to 19 July 2026. The extension does not automatically apply to all serving establishments. Businesses wishing to use the arrangement must submit their own application. The municipality director has been given authority to decide on the applications. Applications can be submitted for extended serving hours for alcoholic beverages in groups 1 and 2 until 06:00, with corresponding extended opening hours. The arrangement generally does not apply to outdoor serving, unless the circumstances are particularly suitable. To have the application approved, the serving establishment must show direct broadcasts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup indoors for its guests. The serving establishment must also document: a license from the TV companies for the broadcast of the games, a valid serving permit, sufficient staffing during the extended serving hours, and police approval for their own security, or an agreement to hire security personnel from a licensed security company. Actors who wish to arrange the viewing of VM games on a large screen in other locations and serve alcohol must apply for a serving permit for single-line operation and in addition apply for extended serving hours if the arrangement lasts beyond 03:00. The same conditions for extended serving hours apply to these arrangements. To have the municipality process the applications before the tournament starts, the application for extended serving hours must be submitted by 26 May 2026. It is essential that the application is complete and includes necessary documentation. Incomplete applications can lead to longer processing times.
